Almost everyone has been going around asking about the “metaverse.” Which is a term that’s being used to hype up Facebook Inc‘s unexpected rebrand. And even though most of us are not 100% sure what to expect from the “metaverse.” The whole thing has everyone’s attention.
In the early days of the announcement, no one expected the obstacles that followed. After announcing “Meta,” Facebook got the news that someone else already filed for that trademark. And the company is willing to back down for 20 million dollars. Which would give its two founders 10 million dollars each. But will Facebook go for it? Or are they going to take the matter to court?
In all likelihood, they might end up getting the trademark in an undisclosed, out-of-court arrangement. Because Facebook’s delay in coughing out the benjamins has shown a reluctance to buy the trademark. At least not at that price. And in actual fact, the trademark has not yet been granted. But still, Facebook applied for the trademark two months after our lucky startup – Meta PC.
The woes do not end there for the social media giant. They also probably need to acquire the Instagram handle @Meta. Which would match the Twitter handle they are already using. But Instagram already has a biking company that uses the handle @Meta. And the chances are… they won’t back down from the handle without a big payday too.
The good news is that Facebook Inc (now Meta) has secured www.meta.com. At least that’s one for the home team. And given that, along with the Twitter handle which they already have… Meta is almost in full ownership of the most ideal social handles. Almost… But Mark Zuckerberg must definitely be feeling a bit like Thanos – when he still had a few infinity stones missing.
