A few hours ago (while I was sleeping) the internet exploded with news about one of Gwyneth Paltrow’s retail products. The now infamous “vagina-scented” candles are actually a hot seller. Though they have now made negative headlines after one of the candles exploded in a customer’s home. Boom!
50-year-old Jody Thompson won the candle in a quiz. And told the New York Post, “It could have burned the place down (her living room). It was scary at the time! But funny looking back that Gwyneth’s vagina candle exploded in my living room.” The quiz champion also added, “The candle exploded and emitted huge flames, with bits flying everywhere.”
What the goop Gwyneth!?
So far Goop (Gwyneth Paltrow’s company) has not yet released a statement, but a lot of the “vagina-scented” candles are still out there. I even went to eBay to try and see how much they cost, and most of the sellers I found were sold out. Paltrow’s company Goop was founded in 2008… And legend has it she gave it the name. After “someone” pointed out to her that a lot of successful online business have double “o” in their name. Facebook, Google, Yahoo… you get the point. This is something that I myself, stumbled upon while blogging about The Weakest Link.
After more than ten years in business, she has finally made a memorable bang! And we need to give her credit for coming up with such a… bold direction. Some of my friends love kombucha.. but don’t have the bold guts to try mahewu lol. Stay bold Gwyneth!
Now back to the issue of safety, Goop’s website comes with the following warning. Written in big, bold caps. So that all the vagina-scented-candle lovers (you know yourselves) won’t miss the warning:
BURN CANDLE WITHIN SIGHT. KEEP AWAY FROM THINGS THAT CATCH FIRE. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN AND PETS. TRIM WICK TO 1/8” BEFORE EVERY LIGHTING. PLACE ON A STABLE, HEAT-RESISTANT SURFACE. KEEP WAX POOL FREE OF DEBRIS. DO NOT BURN FOR MORE THAN TWO HOURS AT A TIME. ALLOW GLASS TO COOL COMPLETELY BEFORE HANDLING.
