Nobody can deny that the social media absence of President Donald Trump has left a big “current affairs void” on platforms like Twitter. Subsequently, Twitter users have now turned their undivided attention to his wife, 50-year-old Melania Trump.
Melania’s tweets are handled through an account that is run by the Office of First Lady: @FLOTUS. What could go wrong, right? One would expect nothing but smooth sailing (when the office is in charge of the account) but the account’s latest tweet has sparked a lot of emotions. In the tweet, FLOTUS talked about her Be Best compaign and Twitter reacted.
Some users replied saying, “Your husband is the biggest online bully the world’s ever seen. Your mission failed miserably. And it was just more propaganda.” Others commented in total disagreement saying, in all caps: “BEST FIRST LADY EVER.” I took the time and transcribed below what Melania Trump’s Be Best video had to say:
Melania Trump’s Be Best Campaign
My Be Best initiative was inspired by compassion, strength, and kindness. These qualities are the fabric of our nation and allow for a place of freedom and opportunity for all. From coast to coast, Americans have an unwavering resolve to help one another. And share a common bond, in wanting to create a better future for our next generation. Be Best is a platform that helps children achieve their fullest potential. And also highlights, the people and organizations that are doing extraordinary things in our country and around the world.

The goal of Be Best has been simple. Teach youth about the importance of developing both mentally and physically. The also includes understanding online safety, and the dangers of opioid and drug abuse. Over the past four years, I’ve heard from countless medical staff, educators, leaders in technology, and many more who have given a voice to these issues. And help provide innovative solutions and life-saving resources.
I continue to believe that shining a light on these positive examples will inspire others to do their part. I want to thank everyone who has supported Be Best over the past few years. Together we have raised awareness on opioid abuse and how it impacts the lives of children and families. We helped in reducing the stigma behind addiction and encouraged lawmakers to pass legislation that helps individuals struggling. We expanded resources to adults and families, on how to protect our children online. And help them understand; their self-worth is not defined by social media. And we gave a voice to some of our most vulnerable children, in the foster care system. Ensuring that they had the support they needed to get through the difficult stages in their lives.
The video concluded off by adding the following remarks:Embed from Getty Images
I have enjoyed working alongside other world leaders. Learning about their solutions and sharing some of the successful programs here at home. But our work is not done, as the legacy of Be Best comes to a close at the White House. We must continue to give a voice to our nation’s children, and the issues that impact their lives. It is the values and spirit of the American people that inspired the launch of Be Best. And I know it is those values that will carry on [in the future]. If we continue to support one another and come together in our communities, schools, government, and places of worship. We will ensure that all children have the opportunity to achieve the bright future they deserve.
So having read that, what are your thoughts? Are the Twitter attacks on @FLOTUS’ post warranted? Share your thoughts in the comments section below guys, on Melania Trump’s Be Best! Or the reaction that followed it. I have blogged before about some tweets that came with consequences. When a political leader builds something, they hope to leave a legacy. Now… In her four year tenure, has FLOTUS succeeded?
